Buckland Hall
Access Statement
Buckland Hall is a dedicated venue for hire and we tailor our services
and special arrangements to meet the needs of each event according to
the information provided by the event organisers prior to the start of
each event. This should help us to ensure that the specific needs
of each person attending an event at Buckland Hall have been considered
and that we have made our best efforts to provide for him or her.
It is our intention to ensure that the general arrangements within the
building and curtilege will serve you as best as possible within the
limitations that exist because of Buckland Hall being an historic and
Listed Building.
We would urge each attendee (whether residential or non-residential)
to contact their group organiser to discuss specific requests and requirements
and for the group organiser to then agree arrangements with us prior
to the event.
Public Transport
There are good train links to the nearest station, Abergavenny – see
How to Find Us. Taxis are available at the station.
Please note that in the Brecon Beacons there is no bus service that will
be of any help to you as the service on the A40 between Brecon & Abergavenny
is minimal and the nearest bus stop is nearly 2 miles from our front door.
Please do not use any SatNav or internet route-finder directions as these
are invariably wrong. Use only the directions found on the Buckland Hall
website.
Arrival on site
There is a car park next to the mansion. It is unmarked and there
are no permanent reserved bays, though reserved spaces can be set up
on request. Cars can drop off passengers and luggage at the front
entrance before parking. With advance notice, we may be able to
offer assistance. There are floodlights for the car park which
will be on during hours of darkness on days of arrival and departure
and other times in arrangement with the group organiser.
Group Events
Buckland Hall serves only pre-booked group events. Each event has
a specific starting and completion time of occupancy and all attendees
are asked to respect those timings. Buckland Hall preserves the
privacy of the groups in occupancy and is not open to the general public. There
is no drop-in restaurant or B&B accommodation.
Non-event Visits
To arrange a visit to view Buckland Hall for possible booking, event
organisers should contact us by email or telephone to arrange a suitable
date and time.
Reception
The reception for each event is arranged by the event organisers.
Access to Entrance
The car park is level and generally smooth tarmac. There are three steps
to the front door. There is a permanent ramp to the garden entrance
and, with prior notice, we can also install a temporary ramp to the
front door.
Access within Building
The ground floor is level throughout and the doorways and corridors are
quite generous in width. The main staircase has gentle steps
with wide treads and may be suitable for those who are less steady
on standard staircases. There is a service lift to the first
floor only and those who wish to use this should arrange it with our
staff.
The first floor is also level throughout though some of the fire doors
may be awkward. All but three of the bedrooms have level access
into the bathrooms. Two of the bathrooms are more spacious and more suited
to wheelchair users.
The stairs to the second floor are steeper and those with accessibility
requirements should plan with their group organiser (who is responsible
for the bedroom allocation) to stay on the first floor.
Toilet
There is a wheelchair accessible toilet on the ground floor.
Loop
We have a portable loop system which can be obtained from the office
and used wherever your session is taking place.
Vision needs
The layout of Buckland Hall is rather labyrinthine and not naturally
conducive to those with visual deficiencies. Signs are not much
help and it has been found to be more important for those with such
needs to be shown the way to key rooms initially.
Telephones and emergency contact
There are no telephones in the rooms and no room service. There
is a payphone on the ground floor. Those who might need attention
during the night may need to discuss such help with their group organiser.
Mobile phone reception in the area is patchy and cannot be guaranteed
for any of the networks.
Dogs
Although we are not able to welcome pets into the mansion, we do allow
assistance dogs with their owners. Outside the dogs can run free,
provided that they have been trained not to chase or worry farm animals.
Gardens
In the gardens, there is level access around the mansion with benches
and chairs available. There are two steps up on the covered veranda. The
lawns are accessible from the hard-standing, though sometimes the ground
can be soft and in places is uneven.
Group Organiser’s role
Your group organiser bears the main responsibility for your health and
welfare during the event and should be your first point of contact
in emergency and for special requests.
Help us to help you
The key aspect of an event at Buckland Hall is that we are here to help
all of our guests enjoy their stay and we will do everything we can
to assist you. The more we know before the event and can prepare
in advance, the better able we are to provide for you.
